Watch the movie (again if you have to) and realize that
NOBODY else could've played it with all the heart and talent of Freeman. I kinda went "huh?" when I first saw the casting but after hearing Freeman's narrative and seeing play his part... Red was perfectly cast!
Other trivia... Andy Dufrense was short in the novel while Robbins stands a towering 6-3.
