The three Shrek films are indeed a great set of films and worth having in your DVD library. Mike Myers struck gold again with this creation and was careful in the story line not becoming too gauche. He kept it tame enough for kids to watch but added enough subtle jokes to the point that parents will enjoy watching the film for their own (grown-up) reasons.
Kids watching it 15-20 years from now will (as adults) slap their foreheads and cry out "THAT'S what mom and dad were laughing about!" because they (now) get it! It's a rare achievement for a writer to pull that off.
Giving classic fairy tale characters a modern take on life gives the film a kick. The imagination of Myers and other writers giving each of the characters their own little quirks such as Pinocchio's penchant for wearing women's underwear, and the Big Bad Wolf's out of the closet cross-dressing.
With the baby ogres you could smell another sequel coming as strong as the deposits in their diapers. I wouldn't be surprised to see a kids TV show built around those kids as well. Likewise they'll be adventuring with those mutant donkey/dragon babies.
